THE SNOW KEEPS FALLING AT THE UNION SQUARE THEATRE!

SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW RECEIVES DRAMA DESK NOMINATION FOR UNIQUE THEATRICAL EXPERIENCE

The internationally-acclaimed SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW, seen by audiences in over 80 cities around the world, was honored today in New York with a Drama Desk nomination for Unique Theatrical Experience. Already the recipient of London’s Olivier Award, Edinburgh Festival Critics’ Award, Moscow’s Stanislavski Award and Australia’s Sir Robert Helpmann Award, the Drama Desk Awards will be presented on Sunday, May 22 at 9 PM at the F.H. LaGuardia Concert Hall at Lincoln Center. Hosted by Harvey Fierstein, the live event will be aired on NYC TV Channel 25 on Wednesday, May 25 and Friday, May 27 at 8:00 PM and Thirteen/WNET will also broadcast the show on Sunday, May 29 at 12 Noon.

Since the snow began falling in the sweltering dog days of last August, SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW has become a rare financial success in the current off-Broadway environment, having already sold over $4.2 million in tickets, as it approaches recoupment of its initial capitalization. SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW is a magical theatrical experience that melds the unbridled hilarity -- and the unexpected poignancy -- of the art of clowning with stunning spectacle and awe-inspiring visual images and fantasy, culminating in a blinding, heart-stopping snowstorm that engulfs the entire audience.

New York critics have praised SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW. Entertainment Weekly raved, “This SNOW is hot, hot, hot! Walking into SNOWSHOW is like strapping yourself into the very best ride ever. More spectacular than anything Off-Broadway has seen in years.” The New York Times said, “In a show that touches the heart and tickles the funny bone, Slava and his giggle of clowns are stirring up laughter and enjoyment. Highly recommended.” Variety proclaimed, “SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW is enchanting and remarkable and awakens a child-like sense of wonder and glee.” The Wall Street Journal wrote, “SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW is a zany fantasia, and I loved every minute of it.” The Associated Press said, “After playing to audiences in more than 80 cities around the world, SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW is taking off-Broadway by storm, and if New York is lucky the show will stay for a good long time. In the blissful finale it was hard to find a single adult or child who seemed less than ecstatic” And Roma Torre on NY One raved, “If only this show that taps into our inner child could be seen by warring adults, the world would be a better place. Only a fool would underestimate the transformative powers of a show that brings audiences to such giddy heights.”
SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW is performed by an ensemble of clowns at each performance at the Union Square Theatre (100 East 17th Street). SLAVA’S SNOWSHOW plays Tuesdays through Fridays at 8 pm, Saturdays at 4 pm and 8 pm, and Sundays at 2 pm and 5:30 pm. Ticket prices are $59.90 to $64.90.
